Having cockroaches in your home or workplace is unhealthy
Cockroaches carry bacteria on their bodies from sewers, drains and garbage areas which bring them in contact with disease organisms including salmonella and other organisms associated with dysentery, typhoid, hepatitis and tuberculosis and then transmit it to you and your family by visiting your kitchen and bathroom areas. There are 5 species of cockroaches that are considered to be the main cause of problems in homes and commercial premises. They are the Australian, American, Brown Banded, German and the Oriental Cockroaches.
These cockroaches are relatively large. In appearance, adults are similar to the American cockroach; but the body is a darker brown, the yellow markings on the pronotum are more clearly defined, and fore margins of the forewings have a district yellow marking.
Preferring food in plant origin, this cockroach may be encountered in greenhouses and under bark or leaf litter in gardens. As well, it is found in subfloor voids, wall voids, roof voids, around utilities in factories and other buildings, in outhouses, and in and around woodpiles. It tends to be more frequently encountered in warm, subtropical to tropical conditions.
They are relatively small. Adults are pale brown in colour with very pale bands across thorax and abdomen. The female wings are somewhat reduced, while those of the male extend past the abdomen.
This cockroach tend to be an indoor pest, frequently infesting the dwelling parts of buildings, as well as offices, hospitals, restaurants, storerooms and so on. Unlike German cockroach, however, its activity may be scattered throughout the building rather than being restricted mainly to kitchen areas. Egg cases may be found in wardrobes, dressers, cabinets and behind bookshelves. It prefers warm temperature but does not seem to require much moisture as the German cockroach. They are very active and may fly if disturbed or in warm conditions.
Small, light amber-brown, with two longitudinal dark stripes on the pronotum. Adults have wings but do not seem to fly. They are the most prolific breeder of all pest cockroaches.
They seek conditions that provide warmth, moisture and food. The vast majority of infestations are associated with kitchens or other food-handling areas, both domestic and commercial. Found under sinks, cupboards, in and under drawers, in and around water heaters, refrigerators, stoves and in wall voids. It will eat almost any organic material. Where there is water available adults may survive up to a month without food.

They prefer warm, moist, dark conditions, live indoors in colder regions but mainly outdoors in warmer regions. Widespread pest, occurring in wall, roof and subfloor voids and in and around sewers, drains, cellars, grease traps and rubbish dumps. They prefer to eat decaying organic matter, but will eat most human or animal feeds and also book bindings, paper and clothing. Adults with water source may survive for about 2-3 months without food.
The medium-sized oriental cockroach is dark brown to black. The female has much reduced wings (present as wing buds), while the male has wings that cover most, but not all, of the abdomen.
It prefers cool condition, commonly encountered outdoors under leaf litter and bark and in damp floors, around drainage systems. Its relatively sluggish and is usually located at or below ground level buildings. It feeds on variety of organic matter, frequently in garbage disposal areas.
