Carpet beetle larva cause damage to clothing, insulation, rugs and carpets
Adult carpet beetles are small with compact, rounded, oval bodies. Their legs and head are not obvious and are often hidden under the body.
4 Types of Carpet Beetle
- Variegated carpet beetle (Anthrenus verbasci) 2-3 millimetres long and mottled yellow, white and black
- Furniture carpet beetle (Anthrenus flavipes) 2-3 millimetres long and mottled yellow, white and black
- Black carpet beetle (Attagenus unicolor) is larger, ranging from 3-5 millimetres, more elongate and black with brownish legs
- Australian carpet beetle (Anthrenocerus australis) is 2-3 millimetres long and dark with light markings

Characteristics:
Of the four species, only the Australian carpet beetle is native. Carpet beetles have similar habits as Cloths moths. Where the larvae is responsible for the destruction of organic materials such as furs, wool, felt, rugs, carpets, blankets, curtains and furniture fabrics. Adults life cycle is much the same as cloths moths only larger and live longer about 40 days.
Habits:
Carpet Beetles prefer dark areas under furniture and curtains, where they feed on carpets.You will notice bald patches appearing in these areas.
